Hi! 🖖🏻

I’m Jess Haskins (she/her), founder of Paperback Studio.

I’m a game designer and writer.

🗺️ My specialties are narrative design, worldbuilding, and interactive storytelling.

🎓 I hold an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design.

🗝️ Adventure games are my jam! My credits include Rosewater, Lamplight City, The Longing, and Hiveswap.

👾 Other games I’ve worked on range from steampunk airship shooter Guns of Icarus Online to that classic cubicle pastime, Microsoft Solitaire.

I’m also a professional editor.

📊 I serve game developers, creative writers, and clients in medical communications, business, and law.

📚 My background is in languages and literature, with a BA in French from Bard College.

🦉 I’ve been editing since 2006, and freelancing since 2016.

💫 I’m a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA).

I’m an educator and advocate for game designers, indie developers, and teachers.

🧑🏻‍🏫 I’m an adjunct professor of game design at the NYU Game Center and previously taught game design at Parsons.

✊🏻  I’m a proud union member and organizer at ACT-UAW Local 7902, serving adjuncts and grad student workers at NYU and The New School. We’re currently on strike at TNS and fighting for a fair contract!

📣 I teach and speak about worldbuilding, writing for games, diversity and representation, community, unionization, the New York game industry, and other topics.
